Trump Revokes Harvard’s Right to Enroll Foreign Students

The Trump administration has revoked Harvard University’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), barring the institution from enrolling international students for the upcoming academic year. The decision, announced by the Department of Homeland Security, impacts more than 6,800 foreign students currently studying at Harvard.

Federal officials claim the university failed to provide records related to international students allegedly involved in anti-American protests and accused Harvard of fostering an unsafe environment for Jewish students. The administration also raised concerns over alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

Harvard has strongly condemned the move, calling it unlawful and retaliatory. The university argues it undermines academic freedom and threatens the future of international education in the U.S. Legal challenges are already underway, and a federal judge in California has issued a temporary block on the decision.

This is part of a broader pattern of the Trump administration’s crackdown on elite academic institutions, including threats to strip federal funding and tax-exempt status from universities it views as politically adversarial.

The situation remains fluid as the legal battle continues.
