LONDON, May 30, 2025 — Comedian and actor Russell Brand is expected to appear at the Central Criminal Court today to formally enter pleas to a series of serious sexual offence charges, including rape, oral rape, and indecent assault.
The 49-year-old was charged by post last month following a high-profile police investigation. The charges relate to alleged incidents involving four women spanning from 1999 to 2005, a period during which Brand rose to prominence in the UK entertainment industry.
According to prosecutors, one woman alleges that Brand raped her in a hotel room while she was attending a Labour Party conference. Another accuses him of orally raping her after dragging her into a toilet, while a third — a former radio station employee — claims Brand forcibly kissed her and groped her breasts and buttocks. A fourth woman alleges indecent assault after Brand allegedly grabbed her forearm and attempted to drag her into a male restroom.
Brand previously appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court earlier this month, where he was granted conditional bail pending today’s hearing.
The charges come in the wake of a 2023 joint investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times, which featured multiple women alleging sexual misconduct by the entertainer. The revelations triggered widespread media attention and prompted a formal police inquiry.
Brand has repeatedly denied all allegations. In an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson shortly after the documentary aired, he described his past as “very, very promiscuous,” but denied any criminal wrongdoing.
“Of course, I deny any allegations of the kind that have been advanced,” Brand said at the time. “That is not the type of conduct I endorse, and it’s certainly not how I would live now.”
Today’s court proceedings are expected to be brief, focusing solely on the entry of formal pleas. A full trial could follow depending on the outcome of this initial stage.
