SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Jane Etta Pitt, beloved mother of actor Brad Pitt and a well-known community philanthropist, died Monday at the age of 84. Her passing was confirmed by family members in heartfelt tributes shared on social media. No official cause of death has been released.
Born on August 13, 1940, Pitt was a retired school counselor and longtime Springfield resident. She was married to William Alvin Pitt for over six decades and is survived by her three children—Brad, Doug, and Julie—and 14 grandchildren.
In 2009, the Pitt family honored her legacy of service with a $1 million donation to Mercy Hospital, establishing the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center. She was remembered by family as “love in its purest form,” with granddaughter Sydney Pitt praising her for her joyful spirit and unwavering devotion to her family.
Her death comes just a week before her 85th birthday and six days ahead of what would have been her 63rd wedding anniversary.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
